The original Coffee Guy van delivered its first fresh, hot espresso to workers and commuters in June 2005. With a drive-thru set up on Shore Road in Remuera, Auckland and numerous businesses keen on having coffee delivered, the van was run ragged satisfying the coffee cravings of just one small Auckland suburb. The popularity of The Coffee Guy amongst workers and commuters was matched only by the enthusiasm of keen Kiwis wanting to ditch their nine-to-five in search of something that offered a real work-life balance.

We established the first franchise in January 2006, and very quickly new vans began popping up around the country. The Coffee Guy network has since grown to become the largest mobile coffee franchise in New Zealand with over 29 franchisees in operation.

Following the success of our mobile coffee van franchise system, we introduced fixed sites in 2012 with a drive-thru. While the format is slightly different, it still offers the same great menu that’s so popular amongst our loyal customers. It enjoys the same low overheads that make our franchise systems simple, low-risk, and easy-to-run.



In December 2015, The Coffee Guy franchise business and the brand was purchased by Café Coffee & Bakery (NZ) Systems Limited (CCBS), a company that specialises in retail food and coffee franchises and is based in Auckland. CCBS has numerous brands in its portfolio, including Esquires Café, bb’s Café, Brumby’s Bakery, and Café2U. 

CCBS was attracted to The Coffee Guy because we are good at what we do and the change has also added to the resources that we can tap into, which will only benefit our franchisees. We can draw on the wealth of experience in franchising and coffee. We have a dedicated training facility, access to the well-resourced Marketing team, and benefit by the CCBS group’s larger buying power. It’s all good!

The Coffee Guy is now a New Zealand icon in the mobile coffee industry and as such you will be joining the biggest mobile system and the most recognisable brand in NZ. Furthermore, CCBS has just released a New Van that provides The Coffee Guy franchisees with a new range of blended cold drinks. This will further improve the sales and profitability of new franchisees and those existing ones updating their vans.

CCBS view the success of all franchisees as vital to the success of the overall brand. While The Coffee Guy ownership has changed, little else has. We have kept our proven system, warm company culture, and awesome brand.
